The Price of Peace: $1.3 billion in U.S Aid?
Colombia's President, Andres Pastrana, is requesting international aid as a part of his "Plan Colombia," a plan aimed not only at fighting drug trafficking, but rebuilding the economy and bringing peace to a country in the depths of a long civil war. But people worldwide are questioning Pastrana's methods and the 1.3 billion in aid the United States is putting straight into the military's hands. Critics claim that financing the Colombian military will only escalate the countries civil war. Considering the approach, this seems a likely outcome.
